If you’re a fan of epic fantasy, then you’ll want to check out Wings Unfurled, book 2 of Rebecca Gomez Farrell’s Wings Rising Duology. This book has it all: action, adventure, and a touch of romance; kings, queens, and mythical creatures; and an exciting fight against an ominous and mysterious foe. Lady Serra, Lorne, Vesperi, and Prince Janto are back, all strong and capable protagonists.
Something mysterious is causing dark patches in Lady Serra’s second sight, so she joins forces again with her former love interest Lorne, and with her former fiancé, Prince Janto and his wife Vesperi, who are both struggling with their own problems, the disappearance of their child, the loss of Verperi’s magic and the death of Prince Janto’s father, King Albrecht.
The story is very well-written with skilled worldbuilding and character development. A cast of characters and a glossary are included to help the reader become immersed in the tale. Although it is certainly a better story if the reader has read book one, Wings Unseen, the key elements of the first book are shared in a way that is not overpowering or repetitive for someone who has read it, but enough backstory available that the first book is not necessary to enjoy the second.
Written from multiple points of view, including that of a Moon, Esye, the writer seems to have really hit her stride with this second offering. The book nicely ties up the overall story and the reader will appreciate the resolution of the various relationships we learned about in Wings Unseen, and that come full circle in Wings Unfurled.
The many twists and turns kept us engaged all the way through to a very satisfying ending. If you’re looking for an epic fantasy book with amazing worldbuilding, great characters, and a tight, fast-paced plot, we recommend this Duology.

SUMMARY:
The vicious claren that used to plague the reunited countries of Medua and Lansera are long gone. So what are the new dark patches appearing in Lady Serra’s second sight? She rushes to King Albrecht to report the danger, only to discover that he’s ailing and Vesperi, Prince Janto’s wife, has fled far to the north to grieve her disappeared daughter. Vesperi still wields the silver flame, possesses all the authority she’s ever wanted, but nothing can heal the wound of a missing child.
When the silver moon Esye begins to fade, a gnawing fear preys on her for the first time since she escaped her father’s cold rule. Ominous creatures once thought mythical are now rampaging through the countryside. Janto sends Serra to investigate. But without her friendship and Vesperi’s love, he fears he cannot slay this challenge. He failed to find his own daughter, after all. To save the Lanserim, the legendary bird with three heads must fly again. Will Janto, Vesperi, and Serra find the strength to raise it? Or will this menace, with the might to drain a moon, devour them first?
